Japan coronavirus cases exceed 30,000

The total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Japan now exceeds 30,000 cases.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 295 new cases on Saturday. It's the fifth straight day that the figure has topped 200.

Coronavirus cases in Japan top 30,000

Japanese authorities confirmed 468 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday. This brings the total number of infections in the country to more than 30,000, including over 700 cases who were identified onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked near Tokyo earlier this year.

The total number of cases in Japan now stands at 30,208. That includes cases found during airport quarantine checks and 712 cases on the Diamond Princess.
