The 67-year-old democracy leader visited the Konnichian tea room of the Urasenke School, one of the top schools for the Japanese tea ceremony, in Kyoto's Kamigyo Ward and was welcomed by Sen Genshitsu, 89-year-old former grand master of the school, with a tea performance.
Participants wearing period dress knelt on mats along a stream, writing short waka poems in the time it took for a cup of sake to float past. They then took the cup and drank from it. The poems were recited later.
Chief Executive Officer Shinichi Inoue told the ceremony, "Our services have drawn support from people of all ages. We aim to make our airline a safe and enjoyable company."
At a venue in Nakagyo Ward, Yuki Ikenobo, who is expected to become the next headmaster, gave a demonstration for her students on the theme of dreams.
