Canon EOS RP Full-Frame Camera Officially Announced

According to recent rumors, Canon has a new EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera in the works that could be a budget model. It turns out the rumors were right on the money because Canon has since officially announced the EOS RP, the company’s next attempt at a full-frame mirrorless camera that won’t break the bank.

For those unfamiliar, Canon announced their first full-frame mirrorless camera back in 2018. However there was always something “missing” from the announcement, and it turns out that the EOS R represented a mid-range full-frame camera, and now the EOS RP is the budget version, which means that there could be one more high-end camera in the works.

Nikon Z6 Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Arrives November 16th

Nikon unveiled the relatively affordable Z6 full frame mirrorless camera earlier this year. Nikon has confirmed today that the Z6 camera will be available for purchase starting November 16th.

Customers will be able to purchase the Z6 in body only form for $2,000. If they want it with the 24-70mm f/4 S lens then they will have to pay $2,600. The camera has a 24.5 megapixel full frame sensor with 100-51,200 native ISO, 273 autofocus points, 12 fps continuous shooting, and 4K video.

Canon Reportedly Commands 22% Of Full-Frame Mirrorless Sales In Japan

When it comes to full-frame mirrorless cameras, for years Sony has more or less monopolized the market with its A7 and A9 cameras. However it looks like Sony is about to get some very serious competition from Canon, at least as far the Japanese market is concerned, according to a report from BCN Retail (via Peta Pixel).

The report claims that Canon now commands a whopping 22% of full-frame mirrorless sales in the country, which is very, very impressive when you consider that it was only back in September that Canon launched the EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera system. It also seems that despite only having one model, Canon has managed to beat out the likes of Nikon who reportedly accounts for about 10% of full-frame mirrorless sales.

Fujifilm Exec Says They Will 'Never' Go Full-Frame

With companies such as Nikon and Canon getting into the full-frame mirrorless camera game, you would not be wrong in your assumption that other camera companies might want to get in on it as well, such as Fujifilm. The company has stated in the past that they do not have plans to go full-frame, but it was only recently that they have claimed that they will “never” go full-frame.

Panasonic Announces New Lumix S Full-frame Mirrorless Cameras

Panasonic Announces New Lumix S Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras

For the longest time, Sony has pretty much dominated the full-frame mirrorless camera market as they were essentially the only ones who made such cameras. However in the past month or so, both Nikon and Canon have since come forward with their own full-frame offerings, but apparently that’s not all.

In an announcement by Panasonic, it looks like the company is also throwing their support behind full-frame mirrorless cameras by launching two brand new models: the Lumix S1 and the S1R. Now these aren’t just your typical “me too!” kind of announcements, and what’s interesting about them is that they were actually made in partnership with Leica.

Fujifilm Says A Full-Frame System Doesn't Make Sense For Them Now

In the mirrorless camera market, Sony used to dominate the full-frame segment, but with entry from the likes of Nikon and Canon, their position is certainly threatened. It also seems to show how there is a growing interest in full-frame mirrorless systems, although this seems to be a market that Fujifilm is avoiding for now.

Two Full-Frame Mirrorless Nikon Cameras Rumored For This Summer

Nikon is known for their DSLRs, but given that we're starting to see more photographers, amateurs, enthusiasts, and professionals move to smaller and more portable mirrorless cameras, that's a market that Nikon isn't doing particularly well in, at least not compared to the likes of Sony.

However we have been hearing rumors that Nikon could have something new in the works and according to the folks at Nikon Rumors, there will be two full-frame Nikon mirrorless cameras that will be officially announced this coming summer. The report claims that the official announcement is set for the end of July, possibly on the 23rd of July itself, and the cameras are expected to ship a month after.

Canon's Full-Frame Mirrorless Reportedly Being Field-Tested By Professionals

Sony Exec Predicts Full-Frame Nikon, Canon Mirrorless To Arrive In Next 12 Months

When it comes to full-frame mirrorless cameras, it's safe to say that Sony's pretty much got the market cornered with their A7 and A9 mirrorless cameras. However this isn't to say that other companies are going to take this lying down as we have heard rumors that companies like Nikon and Canon have something in the works.

In fact in a recent interview with DPreview, Sony’s Senior General Manager of the Digital Imaging Business Group, Kenji Tanaka had an interesting prediction in which he seemed to suggest that in the next 12 months, Nikon could very well release their own full-frame mirrorless camera.

Canon Reportedly Prototyping A Full-frame Mirrorless Camera

Canon Reportedly Prototyping A Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera

We have been hearing rumors that Canon could be looking to launch a full-frame mirrorless camera. Given that Canon's mirrorless efforts haven't exactly been met with the same success that other companies are enjoying, a full-frame mirrorless could help change things and make it more appealing to professionals.

Now the rumored camera was supposed to be announced last month but obviously that did not pan out. However according to the folks at Canon Rumors, they have heard from a source that Canon is prototyping the camera already. That being said this shouldn't be a surprise since we're sure that companies do experiment from time to time, and whether or not they actually reach production is the more important question.
