A severe tropical storm has made landfall in western Japan. Officials urge people across a wide area to stay alert for swollen rivers, strong winds, high waves and landslides. One person has been killed. At least 21 others have been injured.

The Meteorological Agency estimates Krosa landed near Kure city in Hiroshima Prefecture at about 3 p.m.. The storm is moving north, bringing violent winds.
