Nikon Unveils Updated Roadmap For Its Z-mount Lenses

Nikon Unveils Updated Roadmap For Its Z-Mount Lenses

The problem with adopting a new camera system is that lens availability tends to be a bit scarce at the start in terms of variety. This is versus long and established camera systems that have been building up their portfolio for years. This is one of the downsides to adopting the new Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, but Nikon definitely has plans to change that.

The company has recently released an updated roadmap for its Z-mount lens lineup for the next few years and it looks like photographers will have quite a few to choose from. In 2019 alone, the company plans on releasing at least six new lenses, one of which has since been announced in the form of the 14-30mm f/4 S lens. The rest of the year is also expected to see the introduction of more prime lenses like a 24mm f/1.8 S and an 85mm f/1.8 S.

Olympus 45mm And 17mm F1.2 Pro Lenses Emphasize Bokeh Quality

Olympus 45mm and 17mm F1.2 Pro lenses emphasize bokeh quality

Olympus has announced 17mm and 45mm F1.2 Pro primes, offering high-end fast 35mm and 90mm equivalent lenses. The lenses use the same 60mm filters that the existing 25mm F1.2 Pro uses and, like that lens both are weather sealed and dust proof.

The two lenses expand the company's series of F1.2 lenses, which are equivalent to 35 and 90mm F2.4 lenses for full frame. This allows Micro Four Thirds users to achieve very shallow levels of depth-of-field at the focal lengths where they need this capability. The lenses are designed to be consistent in size with one another.

Canon Launches A Trio Of Tilt-shift Lenses: 50mm, 90mm And 135mm

Canon launches a trio of tilt-shift lenses: 50mm, 90mm and 135mm

In addition to a new portrait prime, Canon has introduced three new tilt-shift lenses: the TS-E 50mm F2.8L Macro, TS-E 90mm F2.8L Macro and 135mm F4L Macro. Each lens is capable of 1:2 magnification so may not be considered 'true macro,' though the 50mm can go to 1:1 via an optional close-up ring.

Canon says that all three offer improved image quality compared to previous TS-E lenses, with enhancements such as molded aspherical glass and UD lenses. SubWaveLength Structure Coating (SWC) is used in the TS-E 50mm F2.8L and 135mm F4L to reduce ghosting and flare, and a new anti-reflective Air-Sphere Coating (ASC) is used in the TS-E 50mm F2.8L and TS-E 90mm F2.8L. Each lens comes with usability improvements including a larger tilt range, shift-and-lock knobs and a mechanism to lock the lens at its zero-tilt position.

Nikon delays 100th Anniversary D5, D500 and lenses over logo printing issue

Nikon has delayed the shipment of its 100th Anniversary D5 and D500 sets due to an issue with the logo printing process that may result in the logo peeling off. Nikon Japan revealed the delay in a newly issued apology advising customers that they will have to wait for shipments to resume in late October 2017. However, the company will continue to accept new orders for the commemorative sets until August 31st.

According to the notice from Nikon, the logo printed onto the sets' metal case was, in some cases, peeling off. The issue will be remedied and cases with properly printed logos will be shipped starting again in about two months. The temporary shipment delay affects all three products: the D5 100th Anniversary set, the D500 100th Anniversary set, and the Nikkor F2.8 Zoom Triple Lens 100th Anniversary set.
