2018 Subaru Levorg pricing and specs: 1.6 model cuts entry cost, STI Sport debuts

Australian pricing and specifications for the updated 2018 Subaru Levorg range has been announced this week, bringing a new engine option, a much sharper price of entry, and lightly revised looks.

But, there’s a catch: while the arrival of the 1.6 model opens the Levorg range up to more buyers, the company has at the same time significantly increased the price you’ll pay to step into a 2.0-litre model. More on that, further below.

Subaru Australia says it is happy with the sales figures of its mid-sized Levorg wagon, despite owning only a small corner of the local market.

On the smaller side of medium, the Levorg sits alongside Subaru’s big Liberty sedan as one of the brand’s two offerings. With no Liberty wagon in the current line-up – dropped locally in favour of the jacked-up but mostly identical Outback – the Levorg fills the ‘conventional wagon’ role.

By combining the Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Pre-collision Steering Assist, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Lane Departure Warning & Sway Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control, the system, known as EyeSight functions "purely optically" as the automaker explains, having two camera lenses mounted on both sides of the rearview mirror which create a stereoscopic image.
