Japan lodges protest with N.Korea

Japan has lodged a protest with North Korea following the country's launch of projectiles on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kotaro Nogami told reporters on Friday that after studying intelligence on the projectiles, the government concluded that the North had fired a short-range ballistic missile.

A senior Japanese foreign ministry official has lodged a protest with the US ambassador to Japan following the suspected suicide of a US military serviceman who is believed to have fatally stabbed his Japanese girlfriend.

Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeo Akiba called William Hagerty on Saturday. Akiba said the incident is extremely regrettable, and called for cooperation with the police investigation and thorough measures to enforce discipline and prevent a recurrence.

A senior Japanese Foreign Ministry official has lodged a protest with South Korea over its announcement that it would close a foundation set up under an agreement with Japan to support people referred to as wartime comfort women.

Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeo Akiba summoned South Korean Ambassador to Japan Lee Su-hoon at noon Wednesday. Earlier in the day, South Korea announced it would dissolve the foundation to support comfort women. They met for fifteen minutes.
