KADOMA, Osaka Prefecture--Japan's new skating heroine, Rika Kihira, is seeking to soar to new heights that not even her idol, Mao Asada, ever reached.

The 16-year-old rising star, fresh off winning the Grand Prix Final in her first try, has her sights set on winning the Japan Figure Skating Championships, which kicks off here on Dec. 21.

The singer will be celebrating her tenth anniversary on January 21. On the work that will kick off her tenth anniversary year, she commented, "It will be released right before the tour finale, so I will deliver songs through this best-of album as well as the live, so that more people will come to know Abe Mao."

Abe Mao has announced that she will be receiving surgery for vocal cord nodules. 

The singer was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules when she saw her doctor last week. She decided to immediately undergo surgery so that she will be in perfect shape for her nationwide tour 'Live No.8.' She has been told that she will be able to have normal conversations about three to four days after the surgery, and it will take about three to four weeks before she can sing again. To coincide with this, it was announced that her appearances in events and television will be canceled.

Abe Mao will digitally release her new song "Mada Boku wa Ikiteru" on July 16. 

Abe, who will be celebrating her 10th anniversary next year, expressed her strong intentions in this new song. Ahead of her anniversary, she will hold a nationwide hall tour from November, then perform at Nippon Budokan and Kobe World Hall early next year.

This was announced on April 30 during the encore of Abe's tour 'Abe Mao Live House Tour 2018 -Closer-' at Zepp Osaka Bayside. In addition to the single, Abe will hold a hall tour from November and release her very first best-of album (currently untitled).

HKT48 Team H member Yamamoto Mao has announced her graduation from the group. 

Yamamoto made the announcement on April 11 during their performance at HKT48 Theater. On the group's official website, she explained, "In order to study abroad, which has been a dream of mine, I want to change my environment and challenge myself." After the performance, Yamamoto updated her Google+ account stating, "I made the announcement after making the resolve to move forward and study in order to become someone with a big sensibility."

Abe Mao will hold her 10th anniversary live on January 22, 2019 at Nippon Budokan. 

This was announced on April 6 during the encore of Abe's concert at Shinkiba STUDIO COAST. "I never thought I would celebrate my 10th anniversary. I love myself more now than I did 10 years ago. This is all thanks to everyone. Thank you," she told her fans. This will be Abe's second time performing at Nippon Budokan.

Abe Mao will release her new album "YOU" on March 7. 

This was announced on New Year's Day via a CM on YouTube Live. In the CM, Abe announced that she will carry out her activities in 2018 with the title "Road to 10th Anniversary." The new album will include 11 tracks such as her digital single "K.I.S.S.I.N.G.," a self cover of Yamamoto Sayaka's "Kassai," and "immorality" arranged by Okazaki Taiiku. Its limited edition will come with a DVD containing the PVs and making footage for "K.I.S.S.I.N.G" and "immortality" as well as special footage.

"K.I.S.S.I.N.G." is Abe's latest digital single released on December 8. Directed by Kato Misato (A4A Inc.), the PV features the singer dancing while wearing various outfits including a China dress, Santa costume, and more.

Figure Skating : Mao to skip Four ContinentsThree-time world champion Mao Asada has pulled out of February’s Four Continents Championships, the Japan Skating Federation announced Friday.
Mao, who is completing her first season since sitting out the 2014-2015 season, will skip the event in Taipei in order to focus on the world championships in Boston, beginning March 28. Her place in Taipei will be taken by Kanako Murakami.
