Seoul expected to miss deadline

Turning to ongoing tensions between Japan and South Korea. Tokyo says Seoul has until midnight Thursday to respond to its request to enter into third-party arbitration over a wartime labor dispute.

The issue reignited last year when South Korea's Supreme Court ordered Japanese companies to pay damages to plaintiffs who say they were forced to work for the firms during World War 2. The plaintiffs have begun court procedures for selling off some assets seized from the firms.
