The first public "Japanese Sign Language" phone booths for the hearing impaired were installed at Haneda Airport on Dec. 3, it has been learned.

The installation of the booths coincided with the United Nation's International Day of Persons with Disabilities by The Nippon Foundation. Looking toward the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the foundation plans to introduce the phone booths to other main domestic airports such as Narita for Japanese with hearing disabilities.

Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — JR Kyushu Agency Co. said Monday that it will install the nation's biggest digital billboard using organic electroluminescence display panels in Japan at Hakata Station in Fukuoka in April next year.

The curved digital sign 4 meters high and 7 meters wide uses 36 55-inch panels, making people standing beside it feel as if they were enclosed by images, the advertising unit of southwestern Japan railroad operator Kyushu Railway Co., or JR Kyushu, said at a press conference in Tokyo.
