Weather officials in Japan say a strong typhoon is expected to make landfall in the southern Kyushu region early on Tuesday.

As of 8 p.m. on Monday, Meteorological Agency officials say Typhoon Francisco was over waters about 170 kilometers south of Cape Ashizuri in the western prefecture of Kochi. It was moving west-northwest at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour.
