Chikuma River floods 9.5 square km of Nagano Pref.

Japan's land ministry says an area of about 950 hectares, or 9.5 square kilometers, flooded in Nagano prefecture over the weekend. It was the result of heavy rainfall from Typhoon Hagibis that burst the banks of the Chikuma River.

In an aerial survey conducted by helicopter on Tuesday, ministry officials found the inundated zone stretches about 5 kilometers north to south along the river. It includes residential areas in Hoyasu and a bullet train depot in Akanuma, both in Nagano City.

Speaking to Game Informer, Square Enix’s President and CEO Yosuke Matsuda was quoted as saying, “We’re working on that in a variety of ways. That is a request that we hear often. As far as our major titles go, most of those, we still have variations out that you can play now. The more classic titles that you might have played on NES, we are still working hard to make it so you can play those.”

He adds, “We actually have launched a dedicated project internally to port those, so we are working to make them available on a variety of platforms. Certainly down the road, we would like to see that on a subscription or streaming service, so we’re exploring the possibility of creating a dedicated channel for ourselves.”

Square Enix To Release A Major Game Later This Year

Square Enix To Release A Major Game Later This Year

Earlier this year, Square Enix released one of their most anticipated titles in the form of Kingdom Hearts 3, but it seems that might not be all that the company has planned for the year. According to Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda, the company has plans to release a major game later this year.

It is unclear as to what that major game could be given that Square Enix has plenty of franchises under their belts, but if it is a major game, it could be worth looking forward to. Unfortunately for those who might be hoping that this major game could be the Final Fantasy VII Remake, that probably won’t be the case.

Square Enix 'Wants' To Bring Kingdom Hearts 3 Onto The Switch

While the Nintendo Switch has proven to be a commercial success for Nintendo, it seems that there are still quite a few big named games out there that have yet to be released on the console. We’re not sure why, but if we had to guess, hardware limitations could be one of them as the Switch isn’t exactly the most powerful console compared to the PS4 or Xbox One.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is an example of a game that will not be launching on the Switch, but apparently Square Enix wants to change that. In a video put out by YouTuber DreamcastGuy, he claims to have heard from a source that the company apparently “wants” to bring Kingdom Hearts 3 onto the Switch, but are apparently going to base their decision on whether or not it will sell.

Square Enix Admits Final Fantasy VII Remake Was Announced Too Early

The Final Fantasy VII remake was announced back in 2015 and now fast forward 3 years later, we still don't have anything to look forward to. The game's producer Tetsuya Nomura has reassured fans that the game is in development but when exactly we can expect its release is anyone's guess.

This means that fans could still end up waiting about 4-5 years at the very least. However it seems that this wait could have felt "shorter" had Square Enix chosen to announce the game at a later date, something that Nomura himself had admitted. Speaking to Multiplayer (via Stevivor), Nomura was quoted as saying, "I am aware that we announced it very early, but in the industry, word was starting to spread that we were working on the game, so we decided to stop keeping it a secret and to reveal it officially."

Square Enix Confirms Their 'go' Series Of Games Are Over

Square Enix Confirms Their 'Go' Series Of Games Are Over

In recent years we've seen Square Enix release "Go" versions of games based on their popular franchises. This has resulted in titles such as Lara Croft Go, Hitman Go, and Deus Ex Go, which are based on existing franchises but played in a slightly different manner. If you were hoping to see more "Go" titles from Square Enix, the bad news is that you won't.

In a report from (via Polygon), Square Enix confirmed that they were done with the series. This was revealed by Square Enix Montreal's head Patrick Naud who said, "It's one of the challenges we have today is the premium mobile market is diminishing. You've got more and more high-quality free titles, so there are even fewer and fewer people inclined to try something that will not be free."
