Thanks to a certain unwelcome virus, the Toyota Corona's image has taken a bit of a beating over the past year or so. My very first car was a 1969 Corona sedan that cost 50 bucks, and I now own a chopped, customized 1969 Corona coupe that Boyd Coddington proclaimed as the "Coolest Car in L.A." a quarter-century back. For these reasons, I document every single Corona I find in car graveyards, and here's the latest: a well-worn 1979 Corona station wagon in a Denver-area yard.

A government survey has found that more than 80 percent of facilities that received subsidies to build hydrogen filling stations across Japan were actually ineligible for them.

The subsidies were being offered as part of a project by the Environment Ministry for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The organizers of the Games have been promoting a carbon-neutral "hydrogen society," hoping to make it an Olympic legacy.

Four people who are being held at a police station in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward were confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus on Saturday, in addition to two others who tested positive earlier this month. A fifth man who has since been released was also confirmed to be infected.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department says the five men are aged between their 20s and 60s.

A new train station building at Harajuku on Tokyo's Yamanote loop line has replaced the 96-year-old adjacent structure, which was famous for being the oldest wooden station building in the capital.

The last train rolled out from the old platforms in the early hours of Saturday. East Japan Railway will demolish the wooden edifice, which it says is not sufficiently fire resistant.

S.Korean woman remembers son's train station death

A South Korean woman has visited the station in Tokyo where her son was killed 19 years ago while attempting to save a man who had fallen onto the tracks.

The 26-year-old student, Lee Su-hyon, and a Japanese photographer jumped from the platform at JR Shin-Okubo station to try to save the man on January 26, 2001. All three were hit by a train and killed.
