Watch The Toyota Rav4 Awd Struggle With The Moose Test

Watch the Toyota RAV4 AWD struggle with the Moose Test

In Europe, Sweden specifically, there's a safety exam known as the Moose Test, sometimes called the Elk Test. It aims to ensure a car can sharply perform an s-shaped maneuver to avoid unexpected objects that enter the road. Operated by Swedish magazine Teknikens Värld, a Toyota RAV4 AWD-i recently displayed poor performance in the Moose Test, which resulted in the publication failing the car.  The concept of the test is simple. At maximum load, the vehicle starts in a straight line, then is forced to cut hard left, immediately hard right, and back into the original course. This is meant to imitate avoiding a moose, backing-up vehicle, or person running into the street. The vehicle is required to correct course as a way to imitate avoiding incoming traffic. This affords a unique test of the suspension, handling, and safety systems such as electronic stability control.  Teknikens Värl tested two RAV4s in exactly the same spec, and both vehicles performed similarly. During the second cut to correct course, the RAV4 is clearly upset with bouncing, skidding, and wheel lift. Here's an excerpt of Teknikens' findings:  Toyota RAV4 has quick front end reactions when we turn left into the lane. When we turn right it cuts in and the car goes up on two wheels. But the behaviour varies. Sometimes it goes up on two wheels with extreme reactions including severe skid tendencies, other times the car bounces sideways through the moose test and manages, in the midst of this hard to handle behaviour, to ease the worst forces and avoids going up on two wheels. But instead the car becomes willing to skid sideways. After much effort and great hassle, we manage to reach 68 km/h (42 mph) – a speed that is not approved. Teknikens even goes so far as to suggest the car is unsafe for driving, advice that should be taken with a grain of salt. The test also famously failed old examples of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Porsche Macan, and in both cases, the companies contradicted the results. Toyota responded by saying it specifically ran the RAV4 through the Elk Test, and it passed under the company's supervision. Read Toyota's answer at Teknikens, and watch the video above. In U.S. crash testing, NHTSA rates the RAV4 at four out of five stars for rollover risk.

Watch The 2020 Toyota Supra Get Some Air On A Track - Autoblog

Watch the 2020 Toyota Supra get some air on a track - Autoblog

As if the Supra needed any help garnering more attention: After first announcing the return of the historic sports car at the Super Bowl earlier this year, Toyota is launching a new advertising campaign for the 2020 GR Supra called "This Is Our Sport." Part of the multi-video offensive includes a clip that shows the Supra carving up a track and getting some air beneath its tires. On the 50th anniversary of NASA launching Apollo 11 to the moon, Toyota has released video of the Supra launching inches above the pavement. Sure, it's not quite as momentous, but it's pretty sweet any time we see footage of a performance vehicle running at 11/10ths. And the drifts. LOTS of drifts. Not surprising, considering it makes more horsepower than advertised.  Officially, the 30-second video is called "Track Day," and it's the longest of the pack of advertisements. Others include six-second spots called "Joy" and "Face Off," which shows the old Supra meeting the new Supra in a design comparison of sorts.  "Track Day" will appropriately air during motorsports events, but that's not the end of the story. Toyota will also be releasing a long-form video called "Game of Horsepower," which will use the Supra in a game of H.O.R.S.E. and will debut across the company's social media channels. Check out "Track Day" above.

Watch Honda Mean Mower V2 Hit 100 Mph In 6.29 Seconds, Top Out At 150 Mph

Watch Honda Mean Mower V2 hit 100 mph in 6.29 seconds, top out at 150 mph

There is no stopping Honda and its extreme lawn mower division. Well, maybe it's not a whole division, but it did take a bit of work to accomplish this latest feat. The Honda Mean Mower V2 is now the official Guinness World Record holder for the fastest lawn mower to 100 mph. Honda managed to scoot to the century mark in just 6.29 seconds, which is beyond scary fast for a lawn mower.

Despite technically being able to cut grass, there isn't much about this vehicle that is lawn mower-like. Jess Hawkins (stunt driver and racer) piloted the machine to the record time, and she also managed to hit a top speed of 150.99 mph. It uses the 999cc four-cylinder engine out of the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP motorcycle and only weighs 309 pounds. At that minimal weight and 200 horsepower, it's obvious why this thing rips. For some perspective, that power to weight ratio is better than the Bugatti Chiron.
