FIFA approves use of Sony Hawk-Eye on goal-line technologySony Corp. said Friday the world soccer's governing body FIFA officially approved the use of a goal-line technology system provided by its British affiliated firm Hawk-Eye Innovations Ltd.

The announcement follows a decision by the International Football Association Board on Friday to install the system designed to track the ball on the pitch, using six cameras focusing on each goal, to determine whether the ball has crossed the goal line.

Hawk-Eye can track and replicate the orbit of the ball, and pinpoint the exact location of the ball in less than a second. The system is already in use at international tennis and cricket competitions.
