Magnetic Tie Helps Relieve Dear Ol' Dad's Shoulder Stiffness In Style

Magnetic tie helps relieve dear ol' Dad's shoulder stiffness in styleFor the dad who has everything, the Osaka branch of the department store chain Takashimaya Co. started selling ties designed to ease a wearer's stiff shoulders on Father's Day on June 15.

The tie was developed by the Osaka store in collaboration with a medical equipment company that produces magnetic therapy necklaces. The part of the tie that wraps around the wearer's neck contains 10 round magnets, each about a centimeter in diameter, that are meant to improve circulation.

"Please give one to your father, who's tired from working in a stressful society," said a Takashimaya official. The store hopes the product will increase tie sales, as the market has diminished considerably with the spread of the government's "Cool Biz" energy conservation campaign that eschews wearing neckties in workplaces during the hottest months of the year.

The tie targets men in their 40s and 50s, working in managerial positions, and is priced at 10,800 yen ($106.00).
