Nikon believes it does not need mirrorless cameras with large sensorYesterday we told you that Canon might be working towards producing a mirrorless camera with full frame image sensor.
But what about Nikon, Canon’s most feared competitor? Well, according to a recent talk Amateur Photography had with one of the company’s representatives, it seems Nikon will not be going down the same path.

According to him, the market for such devices is growing moderately, but at a small scale considering the overall size of the market.

Apparently, DSLRs still rule supreme and customers aren’t ready yet to take in all the possibilities a mirrorless camera with large sensors might bring about.

Furthermore, he explains that the whole camera market is contracting, possibility due to the fact that smartphones are getting better and better and their cameras along with them. This aspect is impacting the mirrorless camera market, quite visibly.

On top of that, Nikon has recently rolled out the Nikon 1 mirrroless system, so the company has no reason to announce a large sensor based mirrorless camera, at least for the time being.

The photo gear maker also points out the advantages DSLR cameras bring to the table, including improved AF speed, tracking and a reliable life cycle.

Last but not least, a high-end mirrorless system will have to win the hearts of professionals and demanding users, to have any hopes of ever being successful.
