Nintendo Japan Reportedly Phasing Out Black Wii U

Nintendo Japan Reportedly Phasing Out Black Wii UThe Nintendo Wii U is available in two colors: black and white, with the premium versions of the Wii U being the ones in a black finish. Unfortunately it seems that Nintendo will be discontinuing the black version of the Wii U. According to reports, Japanese retail stores are starting to remove the black version of the Wii U from their shelves.

It is unclear as to why Nintendo will be discontinuing the black version of the Wii U, but chances are if you wanted to get your hands on the black finish, you’d have to go for bundles like the New Super Mario Bros. U, Wii Part U, and so on, otherwise we guess you’d have to make do with the white finish.
Now some gamers probably don’t care what their console looks like, but black is a nice finish because not only does it not fade and turn yellow-ish over time, unlike white plastics, but scuff marks, dirt, and scratches aren’t as easily visible as well, so it gives the impression that your console is still fairly new.
Retailers have since started to replace the black console with regular white, including the premium sets. Like we said, we’re not sure why this is the case, and we have no idea if Nintendo will be extending this practice to other parts of the world as well, but in the meantime if you want to play it safe, perhaps you should grab a black Wii U console now, before it’s too late.
