Panasonic Announces New Lumix S Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras

For the longest time, Sony has pretty much dominated the full-frame mirrorless camera market as they were essentially the only ones who made such cameras. However in the past month or so, both Nikon and Canon have since come forward with their own full-frame offerings, but apparently that’s not all.

In an announcement by Panasonic, it looks like the company is also throwing their support behind full-frame mirrorless cameras by launching two brand new models: the Lumix S1 and the S1R. Now these aren’t just your typical “me too!” kind of announcements, and what’s interesting about them is that they were actually made in partnership with Leica.

The result of this partnership means that both these cameras will feature the use of Leica’s L-mount, meaning that users will be able to use compatible lenses with these cameras along with Panasonic’s own. Given that Panasonic and Leica have worked together for years, it doesn’t really come as a surprise.

In terms of specs, we’re looking at a 24MP sensor for the S1, and a 47MP for the S1R. They are also capable of 4K video recording, dual image stabilization which means one inside the camera and one for the lens. That being said, the new cameras aren’t quite ready yet which explains the lack of details, but they are expected to be launched in the spring of 2019 and more details should be revealed then.
