Sharp's Smart TVs Will Be Available In The U.S. Again This Year

Sharp exit the U.S. market back in 2015 when the company’s financial troubles put its very existence in doubt. The company later received financial backing from Hon Hai Precision, the company that’s better known as Foxconn. A lot has changed since then and the Japanese firm has now announced that it will once again start selling its smart TVs in the United States.

Sharp has announced that it has formed a new partnership with Hisense International which will see the company re-enter the television business in the United States after the second half of this year.

When Sharp exited the market, it sold its license to Hisense so one can understand why a deal with that company was necessary in order to regain the license. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed so it’s not clear how much it may have cost Sharp to acquire its license once again.

Sharp hasn’t revealed a lot of details about the products that it will be bringing to the U.S. market. The company does say in its press release that it will focus on the 8K/4K Ecosystem in addition to 5G and AIoT. For U.S. consumers, this means that they will have even more to choose from when they’re in the market for a new smart TV.
