Sony Confirms Early Android 9 Pie Updates For Some Xperia Models

Sony confirms early Android 9 Pie updates for some Xperia models

We speculated that Sony Mobile might be releasing Android 9 Pie earlier for some models, when it unexpectedly started to roll the update to the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact last week, ahead of schedule. Well it turns out that this is indeed the case.

Sony Mobile has confirmed that the Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1 and XZ1 Compact will get the update from 26 October 2018. Owners of the Xperia XZ2 Premium will see the update from 7 November. These models were all original expected to receive Android Pie from November 2018, so it’s good to see a slightly earlier release.

For the mid-rangers, including the Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and XA2 Plus, Sony plans to update these from 4 March 2019. It’s nice to see Sony put some specific dates on its rollout, increasing the transparency on its software plans.
