Wondering if now might be a good time to get a PS4 or PS4 Pro, especially with rumors suggesting that the PS5 might only be a couple of years away from launching? Turns out that you might have more time than expected, at least according to Sony who seems to have hinted that the next-gen PlayStation could be at least 3 years away.
This was revealed by Sony Interactive Entertainment's CEO John Kodera who in a report from The Wall Street Journal was quoted as saying, “We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future." This seems to more or less echo previous rumors, such as the report from Kotaku whose sources told them that the console could launch in 2020 at the earliest.
However the recent statement from Kodera suggests that it could take slightly longer and that we might only see it in 2021. Kodera had previously hinted that a next-gen console could be in the works when he announced the other day that the current PS4 is entering the end of its lifecycle, hinting that a new model wouldn’t be too far off.
It’s probably too early to start speculating as to what the PS5 could feature in terms of hardware and performance, but if you were on the fence and thinking about if you should get a PS4 or PS4 Pro now, like we said, you’ll have more than a couple of years to enjoy it.
