We had hoped that maybe both parties were still negotiating behind closed doors, but according to Sony Pictures chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra, that will no longer be happening. The CEO was quoted as saying, “For the moment the door is closed.” Despite that, he insisted that there was no ill will between both Sony and Marvel, although he hinted that the success of the two movies weren’t solely because of Marvel.
According to Vinciquerra, “We had a great run with (Feige) on Spider-Man movies. We tried to see if there’s a way to work it out….the Marvel people are terrific people, we have great respect for them, but on the other hand we have some pretty terrific people of our own. Kevin didn’t do all the work.”
Whether or not both companies will eventually come to an agreement remains to be seen, but in the meantime, actor Tom Holland has reiterated that he will continue to play Spider-Man. It has also been revealed that a third Spider-Man movie starring Holland will still be happening, although we’re not sure how Sony it will play out.
