European Embassies Tweet On Gender Equality

European embassies tweet on gender equality

Twitter posts supporting gender equality by European embassies in Japan have gone viral.

This follows remarks made by Mori Yoshiro, the president of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee, suggesting that women talk too much in meetings. He later apologized and retracted the comments.

The embassies of Germany, Sweden and Ireland, as well as the Delegation of the European Union in Tokyo, posted messages on Twitter with the hashtags #dontbesilent and #genderequality.

The Twitter posts are accompanied by photos of embassy staff with their hands raised, symbolizing people seeking a permission to speak at conferences.

The tweets do not say if their messages have anything to do with Mori's remarks.
