Japan Reports 9 New Post - Jab Anaphylaxis Cases

Japan reports 9 new post-jab anaphylaxis cases

Japan's health ministry says nine more women have experienced severe allergic symptoms after receiving a coronavirus vaccination.

The health ministry says medical institutions reported that female medical workers in their 20s to 50s experienced anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction.

The ministry says the women were inoculated on Monday with the vaccine developed by US pharmaceutical firm Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.

Their symptoms included rashes, numbness in the limbs, and shortness of breath. The ministry says they have all since recovered.

Eight of the nine women are allergic to certain foods and medicines, or have pre-existing conditions, such as asthma and high blood pressure.

A panel of experts at the health ministry will determine whether the vaccinations caused the allergic symptoms.

A total of 107,558 medical workers were vaccinated in Japan as of 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Anaphylaxis has been reported in 17 women. That is about one in 6,300 people, or about 0.00015 percent.
