The foundation is also expected to serve as a liaison in introducing the evacuees to municipalities and businesses offering accommodation and other support.

The foundation will compile a list of the various forms of support being offered by municipalities and businesses. It will also conduct hearings on the evacuees' requests, to help them smoothly transition to life in Japan.

Earlier, Japanese government officials said they would speed up the issuance of visas by simplifying the application documents. They said they would allow representatives to file applications for groups of individuals. They also said that Ukrainian nationals will be allowed to enter Japan without providing negative test results for the coronavirus.

A group of Japanese-language schools has also begun offering language lessons to Ukrainian evacuees in Japan.

The group, Japanese Supports for Ukrainian Students, is a network of about 40 Japanese-language schools. It provides Ukrainian students with tuition-free education. It is collecting donations for Ukrainian evacuees living in Japan through online crowdfunding, so that it can accept up to 100 evacuees.

Some Japanese municipalities are providing consultation services for Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion of their country. Advice is offered on such things as housing, medical care, and other matters. Consultations are being offered by the locations below as of May 10:
