Osaka To Ask Govt. To Apply Stronger Measures
The governor of Osaka says he will ask the central government to apply special measures to the prefecture so he can take stronger steps to prevent a further spread of the coronavirus.
Yoshimura Hirofumi told reporters on Monday that the prefecture's coronavirus task force plans to make a formal decision on the matter in a few days.
The measures, newly set by a revised antivirus legislation, will enable governors to take focused steps even if a state of emergency is not in place.
The number of new daily cases in Osaka exceeded 300 for three days in a row through Sunday.
Yoshimura said Osaka officials believe that the fourth wave of infections has started, considering that many of the new cases are untraceable.
The governor disclosed that officials are planning to require people who visit bars and restaurants to wear masks while banning entry to those who refuse to do so.
