Renesas Acquires Uk Chip Designer Dialog

Renesas acquires UK chip designer Dialog

Japan's Renesas Electronics Corporation has acquired British-based chip designer Dialog Semiconductor amid surging global demand for semiconductors.

The two firms announced they had agreed to the deal on Monday.

Renesas says the acquisition will accelerate innovation for customers and sustainable value for shareholders.

Renesas expects to pay about 620 billion yen, or roughly 5.9 billion dollars, for Dialog.

The UK firm designs semiconductors used in automobiles, smartphones and more. Its clients include Apple.

Some major automakers have been forced to suspend production due to the chip shortage.

There is also increasing demand for semiconductors used in smartphones, game consoles and data centers.
