Vaccinations Begin At Soccer Stadium In Kobe
Large-scale coronavirus vaccinations began on Monday at a soccer stadium in Kobe City in Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan. Hyogo is one of the 10 prefectures covered by the state of emergency.
People aged 65 or older started receiving their vaccinations from 10 a.m. at the Noevir Stadium Kobe, the home of the J.League soccer club Vissel Kobe.
The vaccinations are being carried out in areas that are usually off-limits to visitors. People who want to have preliminary examinations can talk with doctors online in the space under the grandstand.
The inoculations are given in twelve booths set up in corridors normally used by soccer players.
A man in his 70s says the vaccination was over so quickly and everything went smoothly.
A Kobe city official in charge, Okada Koji, says he believes that people receiving their shots are able to feel at ease thanks to the cooperation of the staff.
Officials say that about 1,000 people are expected to be vaccinated at the stadium on Monday. They aim to gradually increase this figure to 5,000 a day.
