The Japan Meteorological Agency says the average density of carbon dioxide in the air over the country hit a record-high level last year at all fixed-observation points.
The agency has been monitoring CO2 density in the atmosphere at three sites in Japan: Ofunato City in northeastern Honshu, westernmost Yonaguni Island in Okinawa Prefecture, and easternmost Minamitorishima island in the Pacific.
Mazda has taken a swipe at the media's role in propagating the benefits of electric cars for the environment, which Mazda says is blinding the public about the true CO2 emissions of such vehicles, in favour of a new-generation of internal combustion engine (ICE) technologies.
Speaking to CarAdvice at last week's Mazda technology forum in Germany, the Japanese company's head of powertrain development, Ichiro Hirose, said there needs to be more serious and honest discussions about electric vehicle emissions and their total ‘well-to-wheel’ measurement, and not just tailpipe emissions.
Building on its commitment to minimize the environmental impact of its products in every phase of their life cycle, Honda is launching the next phase of its Environmental Leadership Program, or Green Dealer Program, to provide independently-owned U.S. Honda and Acura dealers with new tools to evaluate and measurably reduce energy and water use, saving money while enhancing their environmentally-responsible business operations.
The program, launched in 2012, offers a refreshed website with cumulative CO2 reduction data, an updated Green Dealer Guide, and new benchmark metrics for evaluation, in addition to existing support for data collection, environmental assessment, expert advice, implementation, and results verification.
