NGT48's agency and AKS release statement regarding assault case involving member Yamaguchi Maho

NGT48's agency and their operating company AKS has released a statement regarding an assault case involving member Yamaguchi Maho. 

In a live broadcast on Twitter and SHOWROOM on January 8 and 9, Yamaguchi revealed that she was attacked by two men in front of her home in December. She then participated in the group's third anniversary event on January 10 where she apologized to her fans for causing them to worry.

A 30-year-old fugitive who escaped from a police station in Osaka Prefecture in August has been recaptured in Yamaguchi Prefecture, western Japan.

The man, Junya Hida, was indicted for burglary causing injury and theft and was served a fresh arrest warrant for attempted sexual assault.

Johnny & Associates have officially cancelled their contract with TOKIO's Yamaguchi Tatsuya. 

In a fax announcement titled "Notification of annulment of contract with Yamaguchi Tatsuya," Jonny & Associates wrote, "In dealing with Yamaguchi Tatsuya, on May 2nd during the press conference with the four members of TOKIO, there was an explanation of his decision to resign. Once again, today on the 6th, he expressed his strong intention [to resign] to our company directly." Based on that, "our company president and TOKIO leader Joshima Shigeru met today, and he decided to accept his request."

On May 2, TOKIO members Joshima Shigeru, Matsuoka Masahiro, Nagase Tomoya, and Kokubun Taichi held a press conference apologizing about the recent incident involving fellow member Yamaguchi Tatsuya. 

Leader Joshima Shigeru revealed that the five members met on April 30 and had a discussion. During the meeting, Yamaguchi got down on his hands and knees, and he submitted a letter of resignation. Joshima explained that he wasn't able to accept the letter, "Yamaguchi was so worn out, and there was a part of us that just couldn't say 'please resign' after being together for 23 years. We haven't decided what to do yet." Rather than dealing with Yamaguchi, the members felt it was more important to hold a press conference. "I think some people will say that we are too lenient, but we want to accept it together," he said.

At the beginning of the program, Joshima apologized, "I am terribly sorry for the trouble that TOKIO's Yamaguchi Tatsuya has caused after being investigated for indecent assault. To the victim and family, please accept my sincere apology.

Yamaguchi was under investigation of sexual assault after committing sexual acts against a high school girl in February. Consequently, Yamaguchi held a press conference on April 26 in Tokyo where he talked about the details of the incident and apologized for his actions.
