UK Scalper Group Boasts They Secured Another 2,000 PS5 Units

As Sony is trying to ramp up production of its PS5 console, it seems that scalpers are continuing to take advantage of the shortage in consoles, which we suppose was something that they had a hand in, at least in part. According to a recent tweet by Carnage, a scalper group based in the UK, they have boasted that they have secured an additional 2,000 units of the PS5.

They also claimed that it has been extremely easy, despite the fact that Sony and retailers have put in measures to try and combat bots and scalpers. The concept of scalping isn’t new, although it seems to be a particularly huge problem with the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. Recent estimates have suggested that to date, scalpers have made over $50 million from their efforts, which is really amazing when you think about it.

So far, most scalpers of the PS5 and Xbox Series X have been selling the consoles at almost double (sometimes even higher) than the original asking price, meaning that they are essentially making a 100% profit from every unit sold. It also suggests that despite warnings and advice not to buy scalped units, the public is still doing it, indicating that for some, getting their hands on the console earlier than others is worth paying the premium.

We’re not sure when Sony or Microsoft will finally get a handle on production, but in the meantime, it’s probably a good idea to just wait it out rather than pay $400-$500 extra just to get it a couple of months early.
