2022 Lexus Gx Gets Big Infotainment Update, Black Line Special Edition

2022 Lexus GX gets big infotainment update, Black Line Special Edition

The 2022 Lexus GX mostly soldiers on with the same old platform and powertrain as before. But it is finally getting a pretty major infotainment update to help modernize it. Not only that, but it's getting a Black Line edition like other Lexus models with the lovely Nori Green Pearl paint available.

That infotainment upgrade is the addition of a 10.3-inch touchscreen. It should be much brighter, higher resolution and more pleasant to use than the quite-old existing unit. It's also accompanied by a revised center stack with more minimalist buttons and switches. The actual infotainment operating system also appears to be from other Lexus models, rather than the one shared with Toyotas. The evidence for this is in the inclusion of the unloved track pad, but you're unlikely to use it much with the prominent touchscreen.

Editors' Picks July 2021 | Ford Bronco, Toyota Supra And A Couple Crossovers

Editors' Picks July 2021 | Ford Bronco, Toyota Supra and a couple crossovers

This month of Editors' Picks saw a couple of enthusiast vehicles awarded the honor. The first of those two is the new Ford Bronco. We've had our hands on a number of Bronco variants, and can say without a doubt that it's an off-roader you're going to like. Yes, it'd be great if they were widely available, though that will come in time. Beyond this, we also saw a couple of family-friendly crossovers get the nod. The most notable of these is Mercedes' new GLB-Class. The little, rounded cube is as cute and good to look at as it is useful and pleasing to drive. We suspect it's going to be a winner.

In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here's a quick refresher on what's going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get Editors' Pick status. Those are the ones we'd recommend to our friends, family and anybody who's curious and asks the question. The list that you'll find below consists of every car we rated in May that earned an Editors' Pick.

Subaru Recalls 165,000 Vehicles For A Potentially Defective Fuel Pump

Subaru recalls 165,000 vehicles for a potentially defective fuel pump

Subaru and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced late in July that the automaker is recalling more than 165,000 vehicles for potentially defective fuel pumps which could cause an engine stall.

The in-tank, low-pressure fuel pump in question was utilized quite broadly throughout Subaru's lineup. Subaru first noted the defect in 2020. A failing fuel pump may cause the engine to run poorly; a failed unit may prevent the car from starting at all. The recall is not limited to any particular engine configuration, as some turbocharged models are included. According to Consumer Reports, the pump has also proven problematic in some Hondas.

The Nissan Leaf Is Now Up To $6500 Cheaper, But Is That Enough To Make You Buy One?

The Nissan Leaf Is Now Up To $6500 Cheaper, But Is That Enough To Make You Buy One?

When the first-generation Nissan Leaf debuted back in 2010, it was received with mixed emotions. Electric vehicles were a novelty that didn't make sense to many. But the Leaf remains one of the best-known EVs produced thus far, and one of the first to tackle the mainstream market. With over five billion EV miles driven worldwide, the Leaf is the second most popular EV to be made, selling over 500,000 units last year

Toyota, Honda beat profit estimates but warn of extended chip crunch

TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp posted record quarterly earnings and Honda Motor Co raised its annual profit forecast on Wednesday as post-lockdown sales surge, but the pair joined other automakers in warning that the global chip shortage would persist.

2022 Toyota Land Cruiser Puts Loads Of New Tech At Your Fingertips

2022 Toyota Land Cruiser puts loads of new tech at your fingertips

Another day, another tranche of details on the 2022 300-Series Toyota Land Cruiser. The model won't come to the U.S., the expectation being Toyota will opt to give us the more luxurious Lexus LX version. It's certain some of the tech appearing on the new Cruiser will make its way to other Toyota vehicles, though, so it's worth a look. The package rides on the new GA-F ladder-frame chassis platform that drops 441 pounds compared to the 200-Series architecture while also being 20% more torsionally rigid. Engineers also placed the new engines lower and further back in the body, giving the high-boy truck a lower center of gravity.

The Cruiser will offer seven trims in its various international markets: GX, AX, VX, GR Sport, and ZX. The diesel can only be optioned on the GR Sport and ZX trims, and the diesel versions along with the base GX trim will only come with five seats. The gasoline AX, VX, and ZX seat seven thanks to a third row of fold-flat seats.

2022 Lexus Ux Gets New Colors And A Single New Feature

2022 Lexus UX gets new colors and a single new feature

If you were waiting to see what Lexus would do with the 2022 UX before committing to buy, the answer is "make tiny cosmetic changes." Outside, the biggest addition is that shoppers have a choice of new colors, although we can't tell yet what those colors are. Between the Lexus press release and images, the new colors mentioned are Grecian Water, Cadmium Orange, Cloudburst Gray, Sonic Chrome, and Silver Lining Metallic. Cadmium Orange is available now on the 2021 UX. Grecian Water is the rich blue hue that appeared on the 2021 UX Black Line special edition toward the end of last year — very pretty, but there'd be signs to avoid the beach if the Aegean ever turned this color. Sonic Chrome and Cloudburst Gray are two of the colors that featured on the 2021 Lexus IS and could be migrating to the UX. Sonic Chrome is a shimmery silver that Lexus says "exhibits a metallic quality in a high-gloss finish," the other looks like an overcast day. The UX in the gallery above is dressed in Silver Lining Metallic, which was available in 2019, but we don't see it on the current UX configurator so it could be making a return.

And also as on the UX Black Series, buyers who opt for the Premium, Luxury, or F Sport packages can choose to have the UX body color extended to the normally black wheel arches.

Limited - Edition Toyota Land Cruiser Marks Nameplate's 70th Birthday

Limited-edition Toyota Land Cruiser marks nameplate's 70th birthday

Toyota is celebrating the Land Cruiser's 70th birthday by releasing a limited-edition version of the 37-year-old 70-Series model on the Australian market. Offered in several body styles, the aptly-named 70th Anniversary truck gains a handful of visual tweaks, an interior that's nicer than the standard model's, and a little bit more tech.

Buyers can order the special Land Cruiser as a pickup with a single or double cab, or as a wagon. Available in French Vanilla, Merlot Red, or Sandy Taupe, the 70th Anniversary gains a specific grille with "TOYOTA" lettering instead of the firm's oval emblem, tinted headlights, black paint on the front bumper and on the fender flares, plus 16-inch wheels with a dark gray finish. The front fog lights and the daytime running lights gain LED bulbs.

Mitsubishi's new Outlander could herald the return of Ralliart

Next Subaru Wilderness Model Teased, And We're Sure We Know What It Is

Next Subaru Wilderness model teased, and we're sure we know what it is

Subaru is really getting into the habit of releasing teasers with virtually no information. We can't say we're big fans, but at least this one for the next Wilderness model shows enough that we can guess what it will be based on: the Subaru Forester.

Looking closely, you can make out the placement of the side mirror as well as styling creases on the door and fender. Referencing it against other Subaru models that don't have Wilderness trims, and the only model that fits is the Forester. There weren't exactly many options, of course, since the Outback Wilderness covers the regular model and the Legacy. That leaves the Impreza line, Ascent and BRZ. The Impreza is already covered by the Crosstrek, the Ascent is on the large side, and the BRZ doesn't even have all-wheel drive. So the Forester is the most logical pick anyway.
