Nissan Australia Builds A Warrior That Takes Down Raptors

Nissan Australia builds a Warrior that takes down Raptors

Ram became the first company to fire back at Ford's line of Raptor-branded trucks when it released the mighty 1500 TRX in 2020. Nissan is the second. It's leaving the F-150 alone and taking aim at the smaller, Ranger-based model sold overseas with a dune-hopping Navara built jointly by its Australian division and engineering firm Premcar.

Don't be surprised if the Navara nameplate doesn't ring a bell: Nissan has never sold the model in America. Overseas, the badge denotes a tough, go-anywhere truck that's about the same size as our Frontier. Both trucks were very closely related until 2014, when the 10-year old model sold globally was replaced and our variant of the truck soldiered on — it's still available in 2021. It's the updated model Nissan is counting on to dethrone Ford.

2022 Toyota Tundra Leaked, Shows Off Muscular Front End

2022 Toyota Tundra leaked, shows off muscular front end

Multiple outlets shared a leaked image of the 2022 Toyota Tundra shared by a member of the Tundras.com forum Friday morning. The leaked image appears to be of a styling mock-up for the eventual TRD or TRD Pro variant, boasting punched-out fenders, black-finish wheels and all-terrain tires.

The image above is one of several that were leaked in the form of photos of the truck on various electronic screens; forum members adjusted the images to clear up distortion from the oblique angle at which they were originally taken.

Porsche Adds Android Auto, Wireless Carplay,

Porsche adds Android Auto, wireless CarPlay,

The latest version of Porsche's infotainment system, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) 6.0, arrives this summer and brings a host of updates.

Android Auto finally joins the party, but it's still a second-class citizen to Apple CarPlay, since Android Auto requires a wired connection via USB while CarPlay now goes wireless. For subscribers to Apple Music, that service is further integrated into the operating system once drivers link their Apple ID to their car.

2022 Subaru Outback Review | Things Are Getting Wild

2022 Subaru Outback Review | Things are getting wild

The Subaru Outback was already the go-to choice for those who need a vehicle for going on adventures off the beaten path, but want something other than an SUV. Or, perhaps, those who actually see the practical advantages of a wagon over a similarly priced SUV (lower roof for mounting things on racks, larger back seat). That it has more ground clearance than the typical SUV helps its case, too.

Ah, but it obviously wasn't enough for some. The 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness debuts this year as an answer for all those current owners who have been lifting their Outbacks even higher, putting on rugged tires and lamenting the novel swing-in roof rails aren't strong enough for all uses. The Wilderness does that from the factory and looks extra cool to boot. Should you live in an area where Outbacks are popular, it'll be like driving an AMG Mercedes … people will notice and acknowledge you have the cool one.

Honda Clarity Ending Production This Summer

Honda Clarity ending production this summer

Honda's only fuel-cell vehicle and plug-in hybrid vehicle is going away this year. A company representative confirmed the Honda Clarity would be ending production this August.

The representative didn't specifically say why the Clarity in all its forms is being discontinued, but sales seem likely. Only 551 were sold in all of 2020, and 805 in 2019. That was about half of Insight sales last year, and the only slower selling Honda still in production was the Acura NSX.

Mazda Announces 10 Hybrids And Three Evs Built On The Same Platform

Mazda announces 10 hybrids and three EVs built on the same platform

Mazda's first electric car, the MX-30, made its debut in 2019. It's a bit of a niche model, but it will be joined by at least 13 electrified vehicles in the coming years. Many will be built on the same basic architecture to cut costs.

Known as the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, the platform will underpin five hybrids, five plug-in hybrids, and three EVs due out between 2022 and 2025. Mazda noted it's excluding mild-hybrid systems from these tallies, but it clarified that some of the regular hybrids will use technology sourced from partner Toyota. As we've already reported, one of the Toyota-powered models will be a crossover built in a new plant in Alabama.

2022 Subaru Outback Car Seat Test | Very Family Friendly

2022 Subaru Outback Car Seat Test | Very family friendly

Generally speaking, midsize sedans and wagons can ultimately be better for a rear-facing child seat because there is more room between seating rows. While an SUV's taller seat may yield comparable leg room, it doesn't do much for car seat room. Not surprisingly, then, the 2022 Subaru Outback is a great choice for families using a rear-facing child seat. And having just made the switch to a gargantuan convertible car seat from an infant seat, I know firsthand you often need every millimeter of space you can get. (And if the driver is tall, it might even result in him needing to sell a beloved car).

Let's take a look at how my convertible car seat, the current-model Britax Boulevard, fits inside the 2022 Outback. Note that I am not a certified car seat fitment technician, so I'll only be commenting about how it fits inside the vehicle as opposed to the ease with which the seat is secured. For that information, look to testing done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety on the Outback where it got the best-possible rating of Good+.

There Was Once A Honda Civic Named The Honda Integra

There was once a Honda Civic named the Honda Integra

So it turns out there was a Honda Integra that was actually a Honda Civic. This as opposed to the Honda Integra we already knew about that was just like our Acura Integra but with Honda badges sold in different markets. We noticed the oddity while crawling about used car listings (as one is wont to do). A sedan popped up that looked suspiciously like a mid-90s Honda Civic, but there was a shiny Integra badge on the back of it. Surely, this must be somebody's idea of being funny, right?

Wrong. The Honda Integra SJ exists, and it's essentially a rebadged Honda Civic Ferio. Or "Civic Sedan" as we knew it here. In other words, that means Honda sold two Honda Integras at the same time. One of them was the Integra that we all think of upon hearing the Integra name. The other was just a Civic Ferio that was half-prettied up to increase its appeal. After all, the Integra name was luxury.

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Mitsubishi Mirage L Hatchback

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Mitsubishi Mirage L Hatchback

Chrysler Corporation began selling Mitsubishi Colt Galants with Dodge Colt badging in North America all the way back in the 1971 model year, with many more rebadged Mitsubishis to follow in later decades. Soon after Mitsubishi developed the new front-wheel-drive Mirage for the home market in 1978, this car received Dodge Colt and Plymouth Champ badging on these shores. Sales were brisk, despite internal competition from the Simca-derived Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon. Starting in the 1983 model year, Mitsubishi began selling vehicles under its own badging here; at first, Americans could buy the Starion, Tredia, Cordia, and Mighty Max. For the 1985 through 1987 model years, the second-generation Mirage rolled out of North American Mitsubishi showrooms, doing sales battle with its near-identical Colt twins at the Dodge and Plymouth dealers. Here's one of those cars, found in battered condition in a Denver self-service car graveyard.
