Nissan is 'not in talks with Apple' to build an autonomous EV

TOKYO — Nissan said on Monday it is not in talks with Apple, following a report that the iPhone maker approached the Japanese company in recent months about a tie-up for its autonomous car project.

The Financial Times said the companies had had brief discussions that faltered over Nissan's reluctance to become an assembler for Apple-branded cars, adding that the talks had not advanced to senior management level.

Lexus Ux 250h Art Car Contest Winner By Clap Studio 'zen Garden'

Lexus UX 250h Art Car contest winner by Clap Studio 'Zen Garden'

We confess not to know the first thing about art, so perhaps we don't quite get why anyone would want to cover every inch of a Lexus UX250h with flower petals. It's not as if it's an easy thing to do. But not only has someone done it, the resulting car has actually won an art car competition sponsored by the luxury marque.

Without the flower petals, the Lexus UX is actually a pretty sharp looking compact premium crossover. It wears the Lexus design language with its many crsip creases and angled lines better than most of its fellow L-badgers. In fact, we can think of others whose sheetmetal would look better under a veil of paper blossoms.

Lexus To Add Flagship Suv, True Three - Row Crossover And Ev To Lineup

Lexus to add flagship SUV, true three-row crossover and EV to lineup

Lexus is working to update its mostly dormant portfolio with new cars to populate currently unfilled segments. These will include a full electric vehicle, a true three-row crossover, and a flagship SUV. Many existing models will be getting updates as well, along with a new infotainment system.

The agenda was outlined by the chairman of the Lexus National Dealer Advisory Council, John Iacono, in an interview with Automotive News. It very much reads like someone trying to show how much they know by spilling the beans on random bits of info they've heard (it's definitely not anything approaching official information from a company executive), so we'll take most of it with a fistfull of salt. Still, there's plenty here that certainly makes sense given the state of the current Lexus lineup.

2022 Infiniti Qx60 Loses The Cvt In Favor Of A 9 - Speed Automatic

2022 Infiniti QX60 loses the CVT in favor of a 9-speed automatic

Infiniti confirmed Thursday that its redesigned QX60 will ditch its CVT in favor of a newer nine-speed automatic, following its platform cousin, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, in adopting an updated powertrain.

Putting this powertrain in Infiniti's midsize crossover really shouldn't be much of a surprise. Thanks to Nissan, we've already gotten a sneak peak at it care of the 2022 Pathfinder, which will employ the ZF nine-speed paired to the same 3.5-liter V6. The engine is tuned for an extra 11 horsepower (295 vs. 284) in the Infiniti, but we don't expect significant differences between the two when it comes to their fundamentals.

Toyota Raises Profit Forecast Thanks To Strong Silicon Stockpile

Toyota raises profit forecast thanks to strong silicon stockpile

TOKYO — Toyota said Wednesday it has a stockpile of chips that could last as long as four months, and was not immediately expecting a global chip shortage to hit production, as it jacked up its full-year earnings forecast by a bigger-than-expected 54%.

Unlike other automakers, including Japanese peers Nissan and Honda, that have had to cut production because of semiconductor shortages, Toyota raised output for the fiscal year ending March.
