2020 Honda Clarity Phev Gets Updated Acoustic Alert System So Bypassers Know It's Coming

Honda has announced pricing details of the 2020 Clarity Plug-In Hybrid model, which will begin arriving at dealerships across the United States on January 17.

The 2020 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid’s starting price remains unchanged, at $34,355, including a $955 destination charge. The only change for the new model year is the addition of an updated Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) that’s enabled when the car is being driven at low speeds on electric power only to alert pedestrians and road users of its presence.

The electrified powertrain of the 2020 Honda Clarity PHEV combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol unit that runs on the Atkinson cycle with an electric motor and a 17 kWh battery pack for a combined output of 212 HP. The EV range is rated at an impressive 47 miles (75 km) and the battery takes 2.5 hours to fully charge from a 240-volt charging system.

The 2020 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid is EPA-rated at 44/40/42 mpg (city/highway/combined), and 110 MPGe with the battery fully charged.

The range of the plug-in hybrid Honda Clarity includes two trim levels; the base and the Touring model, which starts from $37,555. Base models come with a pretty generous equipment that includes an 8-inch infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers and the Honda Sensing pack of active safety features.

The Touring model adds perforated leather seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, navigation with charging infrastructure information, an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with 2-position memory, and Ultrasuede interior trim.

The 2020 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid is also eligible for a federal tax rebate of up to $7,500, in addition to various state rebates.
