Crew Dragon set to dock with ISS

The Crew Dragon spacecraft is expected to soon dock with the International Space Station with four astronauts on board. It's the world's first operational mission of a privately-developed space vehicle.

The team, led by Commander Michael Hopkins, consists of two other Americans and Japanese astronaut Noguchi Soichi. They will stay at the ISS for about six months to conduct scientific experiments and other missions.

The Crew Dragon was developed by private US firm SpaceX with the support of NASA. It lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sunday evening local time.

The astronauts had some sleep before they began to prepare for arrival at the space station.

The Crew Dragon is expected to dock with the ISS at around 4:00 UTC on Tuesday.

Noguchi, who has also been on board the Space Shuttle and the Soyuz spacecraft, is the first Japanese astronaut to travel in three different types of space vehicles.
