7 Imperial family members to attend Abe's state funeral

Crown Prince and Crown Princess Akishino and five other Imperial family members will attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo next week.

Japan's Imperial Household Agency announced on Wednesday that the funeral will also be attended by Princess Kako, the second daughter of Crown Prince Akishino; Princess Tomohito of Mikasa and her eldest daughter, Princess Akiko; and Princess Takamado and her eldest daughter, Princess Tsuguko.

Japanese petroleum wholesaler Eneos Holdings has revealed that sexual harassment was the reason for the abrupt resignation last month of its then Chairman Sugimori Tsutomu.

The company says Sugimori engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior with a woman tending to customers at an eatery in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, in July.

Japan Airlines has canceled 298 flights that had been scheduled to arrive at or depart from airports on Sunday, mainly in Shikoku and Kyushu.

Typhoon Nanmadol expected to approach Kyushu

Typhoon Nanmadol is expected to approach the Amami Islands and the southwestern main island of Kyushu on Sunday through Monday.

The Japan Meteorological Agency says an emergency warning may be issued for northern and southern Kyushu for unprecedentedly violent winds, high waves, heavy rain and a storm surge.

Relatives of Japanese abductees renew their calls for resolution of the issue

The relatives of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea decades ago have renewed their calls for the return of their loved ones. They met on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the historic Japan-North Korea summit where Pyongyang admitted to the abductions.

Following the summit, which took place on September 17, 2002, five abductees were repatriated. However, 12 out of the 17 abductees officially recognized by the Japanese government remain unaccounted for.

Typhoon Nanmadol approaching Okinawa, southern Kyushu

Weather officials in Japan say a large and powerful typhoon is expected to approach the Daito Islands in Okinawa Prefecture on Saturday and the Amami region of Kagoshima Prefecture and the southern Kyushu region by Saturday night.

After moving over the Kyushu region through Monday, Typhoon Nanmadol is forecast to head northeast and travel across Japan's main island, Honshu, to eastern and northern Japan through Tuesday.
