10 years since Japan's govt. purchased some Senkaku Islands

Sunday marks 10 years since the Japanese government purchased some of the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture from a private Japanese owner.

The government acquired ownership of three Senkaku islands in the East China Sea on September 11, 2012. It cited as a reason the need to maintain and manage the Senkaku Islands peacefully and stably on a long-term basis.

More Japanese firms withdrawing from Russia

A survey shows that more than 20 percent of Japanese companies doing business in Russia have either withdrawn or suspended activity in the country.

The Japan External Trade Organization surveyed 202 companies in late August, more than six months after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine. One hundred and seven firms responded.

Japanese prosecutors suspect that former Tokyo Games organizing committee executive Takahashi Haruyuki received bribes from major publisher Kadokawa under the pretext of consulting fees.

Takahashi was served a fresh arrest warrant on Tuesday on suspicion of accepting 76 million yen, or about 530,000 dollars, in bribes from senior Kadokawa officials for enabling the publisher to be chosen as a sponsor of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

3 bodies believed to be from capsized boat arrive in Japan

The bodies of three people believed to have been aboard a tour boat that sank off Hokkaido earlier this year have arrived in Japan, after being handed over by Russia.

A Japan Coast Guard patrol boat carrying the bodies arrived at the port of Otaru, in Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido, at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The bodies were transferred to separate vehicles and then left the port.

Bodies of capsized boat victims handed over to Japan

The bodies of three people who were believed to be aboard the tour boat that sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido in April were handed over from Russia to Japan on Friday.

A Japan Coast Guard patrol boat called the Tsugaru arrived at the port of Korsakov in southern Sakhalin on Friday morning. It departed Korsakov shortly after receiving the bodies and will arrive at the port of Otaru in Hokkaido on Saturday.
