Abe's Widow Thanks Japan's Prime Minister Kishida For State Funeral
The widow of Japan's former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo has thanked Prime Minister Kishida Fumio for staging a state funeral for her late husband.
Abe Akie visited Kishida at the prime minister's office on Friday. They talked for about 10 minutes.
The funeral was held in Tokyo on Tuesday. It was attended by about 4,200 people, including hundreds of foreign dignitaries.
With the funeral now over, Abe's aides have moved out of his office for Diet members. They had been using the room after his death in July to prepare for the ceremony.
The office on the 12th floor of the building for Lower House members long served as the base for Abe's political activities.
Even after he stepped down as prime minister in 2020, his successors -- Suga Yoshihide and Kishida -- and many other lawmakers visited the room to discuss politics with Abe.
As the place was cleaned out on Friday, a secretary of another office on the same floor expressed sadness, saying it seems like the end of an era.
