Aso, Yellen Discuss Economic Challenges

Japanese Finance Minister Aso Taro and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen have agreed to work together on the economic challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic.
The two finance chiefs spoke by phone on Monday.
It was their first conversation since Yellen took office.
They discussed matters ranging from the economy to the fiscal situation and foreign exchange.
After the talks, Aso told reporters that the two sides agreed to maintain close cooperation.
He said he highlighted the importance of prioritizing an early resolution to the current economic crisis through bold measures, while ensuring fiscal sustainability.
Aso also said the two sides should jointly respond to matters related to China alongside their Group of Seven counterparts. Such matters include the digital yuan that China is preparing to issue, as well as its environmental policies, including efforts to cut greenhouse gases.
