Awara's 'okami' Brew Up Plan To Lure Tourists With New Sake
A group of female proprietors of traditional inns in Japan's Fukui Prefecture are hoping to attract tourists to the area with a new sake they are developing.
It has become an annual tradition for the women from the Awara hot spring resort on the Sea of Japan coast to create an original sake.
This year, they decided to carbonate the sweet version of their sake called ''Okami''. ''Okami'' means proprietress in Japanese. They want to appeal to female customers with the champagne-like sparkling drink.
The group is still finalizing the design of the label. Some members said it should convey the message that sake is good for health and beauty.
Yamaguchi Yuki, proprietress of the Grandia Housen inn, said the women hope customers who have never visited Awara Onsen will come.
The group plans to have the sake ready for commercial release by this fall and sell it at Japanese inns in the hot spring resort.
