Boj Believes Climate Change Will Impact Economy
The latest meeting summary for the Bank of Japan shows policymakers say it is necessary to support efforts to combat climate change as they believe the issue will impact the country's economy and financial system.
In the meeting that ended on June 18, the BOJ decided to introduce a new measure to provide funds for efforts by private financial institutions to tackle climate change.
One policymaker said the bank's action on the issue should be linked to its mandate, which includes contributing to the sound development of the national economy and macroeconomic stability.
The Bank said it will make public the outline of the measure at the next monetary policy meeting scheduled for July.
