Brass Band Performs For Tsunami Victims
A brass band in Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture, has dedicated a performance to the victims of the 2011 tsunami ahead of the 10th anniversary of the disaster next month.
A support group in the northeastern city organized the event at the request of those who said they wanted music to be played for their missing family members.
The audience, including two family members of the missing, offered silent prayers for the victims at the venue overlooking the sea.
Sasahara Ruiko, who planned the event, said she hopes that their feelings will reach the people who went missing at sea, and that their hearts can connect.
The five band members played "Furusato" and "Hana-wa-saku" with trumpets and other musical instruments.
Family members shed tears as they remembered their loved ones.
Seventy-two-year-old Shirogane Teruo from Otsuchi Town said he listened to the music hoping that his missing mother, wife and daughter will be found soon.
He said he has become an old man, but he wants to continue the search.
Forty-three-year-old Ito Tomoe, whose grandfather from Rikuzen-takata Town is one of the missing, said she managed to keep going after the disaster thanks to the support of the people around her, and she is grateful for the musical performance.
