Japanese business leaders have been expressing what they hope to see from Suga Yoshihide, who was elected as the new leader of the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Monday.

The chairman of the Japan Business Federation, Nakanishi Hiroaki, says he wants Suga to stop the further spread of coronavirus infection, while also working on economic recovery.

Nakanishi added that he wants to see bold growth strategies including digital transformation.

The chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mimura Akio, says political stability and continuity of policies are important when the country is experiencing difficult times.

Mimura says he hopes Suga will show strong leadership so that people in Japan can have a bright future after the pandemic subsides.
