Expelled Russian Officials Have Left Japan

Eight Russian officials have left Japan following Tokyo's decision to expel them on April 8. It is rare for Japan to order multiple foreign officials to depart.
The move came in response to the situation in Ukraine. Sources say the expelled officials are believed to have been mainly engaged in gathering intelligence.
Eight officials left the Russian Embassy at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday and boarded a bus to Tokyo's Haneda Airport. Family members and other officials accompanied the departing Russians.
They then boarded a plane chartered by Russia. The plane took off for Russia shortly after noon.
