Experts Warn Post - Holiday Cyberattacks

Experts warn post-holiday cyberattacks

Computer security experts in Japan are warning of an increased risk of cyberattacks, as many business people telecommute and use their computers in less secure environments.

The National center of Incident readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity notes that the coronavirus outbreak has changed the way people use computers.

The center urges people returning to work after summer holidays to scan their devices for viruses before reconnecting to office networks.

It also warns people to be careful about opening files attached to emails, and to keep their software updated.

This comes after reported incidents of cyberattacks targeting teleworkers.

In late April, the computer of an employee of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries group was infected by a file sent through social media that was opened while working from home.

The virus spread to other computers when the employee brought the device into the office after the spring holiday season and reconnected it to the company's network.

There have also been "ransomware" attacks targeting businesses and public organizations.
