Five - Way Talks On Tokyo Games Planned For Saturday

Informed sources say five organizations preparing for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics plan to hold talks on Saturday to decide whether to allow overseas spectators to the Games.
The five participants are: the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, the Tokyo Games organizing committee, the Japanese government, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
They last met online on March 3, and agreed to decide whether to accept spectators from abroad this month, as well as set caps on spectator numbers by the end of April.
Organizing committee chief Hashimoto Seiko told reporters on Friday that she hopes the five parties can reach a decision on overseas spectators and discuss how they plan to move forward.
The idea that it would be difficult to accept spectators from outside Japan is gaining traction. This is due to the unpredictability of coronavirus variants and the infection situation at home and abroad.
The Tokyo Games were scheduled to take place last year but were postponed due to the pandemic. The rescheduled Olympics are due to start on July 23.
