Govt. To Strengthen System For Infectious Diseases

The Japanese government says it will create a stronger command system to implement measures during emergencies involving infectious diseases.
The government adopted this year's basic policies for economic and fiscal management and reform on Friday.
It says that in light of the lessons learned from the coronavirus pandemic, it will take steps under a more powerful system and command center to handle emergencies involving infectious diseases.
It says it will also swiftly consider legal measures aimed at securing hospital beds and medical personnel and at quickly putting drugs and vaccines into practical use.
The basic policies also call for a swift start to studies on creating a new government office to respond to various issues related to children.
The government says it will maintain its goal of achieving a primary balance surplus of the national and local governments in fiscal 2025. It also says it will review the target year after examining the economic and fiscal impact of the pandemic by the end of this fiscal year.
The government also decided on a growth strategy. It calls for tax measures to encourage capital investment to produce products that are highly effective for decarbonization.
It also calls for creating more domestic bases to produce cutting-edge semiconductors to build a reliable supply system.
