Hashimoto Vows To Gain Public Trust In Tokyo Games
The new head of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic organizing committee, Hashimoto Seiko, has stressed that her most important mission is to gain public trust in the Games.
Hashimoto made an inaugural address to about 3,600 committee officials on Friday afternoon. She became the president of the committee the previous day after former head Mori Yoshiro resigned over remarks that were seen as demeaning to women.
Hashimoto pledged to make efforts to restore people's trust, and take thorough anti-coronavirus measures, in cooperation with the central and Tokyo governments, to make the Games a success.
She also expressed her resolve to reform the committee.
A senior official at the committee says that former head Mori is not expected to assume any post in the body in accordance with Hashimoto's ideas.
The committee is now facing important issues, such as antivirus measures, and deciding the size of spectators for the Games, which are scheduled to start in about five months.
